the photographer

Welcome to Andre Nijenhuis Photography

My goal is to create black and white art photography that reflects my personal vision. As you browse the site, you’ll see a small range of topics and some of my favorite individual images.

What is the difference between “black and white photography” and “black and white art photography?” I think one documents and the other interprets. It doesn’t reflect reality, but how I see things.

“In 1988, I first saw the work of a photographer who captured small details he discovered on old train cars. It was fascinating to see. Abstract images of rust and paint splatters, broken pieces of metal and wood, weathered adhesive residues.

In the years that followed, my attention was continually drawn to similar situations on weathered walls and surfaces. In 1997, I discovered the so-called lyrical abstract art form, the art of omission.

Only in 2024 did I begin to seek out situations where I could photograph my own images. It took a long time to create these colorful images”
